Project Jakē - Complete Modern House Renovation

Located in the heart of Markham, Ontario, our clients approached us seeking to renovate their beloved detached home. The family, consisting of five members, wanted to create a more livable and functional space that could accommodate their growing needs.

Our team was thrilled to bring their vision to life and create a modern and stylish living space that truly reflects their family’s lifestyle and aesthetic. The design concept is centered around a neutral palette, accented by natural wood tones that bring warmth and character to the space.

Kitchen Refresh: Maximizing Flow and Functionality

Our clients had a decent sized kitchen space but wasn’t really making the most of its potential.  The u-shaped design with a peninsula wasn’t getting much use, serving mainly as a storage for knick-knacks.

We started by reconfiguring the layout to optimize the flow and functionality of the space.  An island was placed in the middle giving our clients a central gathering place and created more counter space for cooking and entertaining. The new custom cabinetry provides ample storage space and creates a warm and inviting atmosphere.  To save on construction costs, we kept the relocation of electrical and plumbing systems to a minimum, which allowed our clients to splurge a bit more on their finishes.

The combination of high-quality materials and timeless design created a kitchen that is not only functional but also a beautiful space for the family to enjoy.

Family Room Upgrade: Creating a Comfortable and Entertaining Space

The family room is a space where families come together to relax, watch TV, play games, and entertain guests. For our clients, who love to entertain, seating guests was a top priority. However, an existing gas fireplace posed a challenge for planning the seating arrangement and TV placement.

Existing Fireplace Location

Our solution was to replace and relocate the existing builder grade fireplace. This not only transformed the look of the room, but also created a new focal point and allowed us to incorporate a larger sectional and an accent chair for extra seating.

The new fireplace and media unit provided ample space for the family and guests to gather around, and the larger sectional allowed everyone to relax in comfort. The accent chair added a touch of sophistication and provided a place for extra guests to sit. Additionally, the new fireplace added warmth and ambiance to the room, making it the perfect place to gather and entertain.

Full Bedroom Makeovers: Creating Unique Rooms for the Whole Family

The bedrooms underwent a full makeover to cater to each family member’s individual tastes & style. The primary bedroom underwent the most transformation with the addition of a wood slat partition to separate the office and sleeping area. The TV was repositioned to align with the bed and the colour palette was kept in earthy and neutral tones to create a sense of calmness.

The daughter’s room was transformed with a custom built-in wardrobe and a mix of IKEA pieces for a desk, while three of the walls were adorned with a light and cheerful wallpaper. The son’s room used existing furniture in a new way, with the color scheme and theme inspired by the IKEA Kallax shelves. The eldest son’s room was given a moody feel with the usage of black IKEA Billy Bookcases and a dark navy backdrop. Overall, the renovations aimed to save costs by reusing furniture and reducing waste while creating personalized spaces for each member of the family.

Bathroom Upgrades: Bringing It All Together

We carried the slat detailing from the primary bedroom into the ensuite. Our client really wanted an area to display & store her perfume and facial care products so we had a custom built wall niche in the middle of the vanity. This gave a nice contrast against the white wall and also replicated the niche shelves in the shower area. We also wanted to create a focal point as you walk in so we treated the walls with PVC slat paneling that sits on top of a quartz slab. We replaced the jacuzzi tub with a freestanding tub and added some soft sheer curtains to soften the room creating a relaxed spa ambience to the space.

Jack & Jill & Secondary Ensuite

The Jack & Jill and Secondary Ensuite bathrooms were mainly cosmetic updates since we didn’t need to change the layouts of the space. We replaced the vanities, shower systems and all the fixtures.  We used different tiles in each bathroom but kept a consistent theme of pale & neutral warm grey undertones, so each bathroom is unique on its own.
